I'm a big fan of George R.R. Martin's series, "A Song of Ice and Fire." It's fantasy, which is a genre I'm not terribly fond of in general, but it's definitely adult family. It's been described as the Sopranos meets Lord of the Rings, but I think it's more like True Romance meets Lord of the Rings. It's gritty and dark, and "realistic" as far as fantasy goes. Anyway, I highly recommend it to anybody who likes gripping, well-written epics. I'm not a book-reviewer, so I'm sure somebody could give a better pitch for the books than I can, but that's not what I'm here for. A while back, HBO confirmed that it had picked up the series to be adapted into a mini-series (the perfect format for the books; they were made for the mini-series format) that would come out in 2011. The cast is perfect, exactly as I had imagined them in my head when reading the book. Here's the first look at the first book (I think it's one season per book, so the first book is A Game of Thrones) with a teaser that aired with the season finale of True Blood the other day, as well as a video of production on the set. Enjoy, and get excited, because "Winter is coming."
