Ok, I don't have a punchline for that joke, but there's got to be one out there. The always excellent Michael Totten brings his A-game (that's the only game he's got) in his most recent article on the Druze of the Golan Heights. It's complete with great photos, as usual. Check it out.
I have personally been to the Golan Heights and I thought it was the most gorgeous part of Israel. I rode an ATV through the fog and mud near the Syrian border and it was probably one of the most fun experiences of my 20 day trip to Israel. Although I never met any Golani Druze, our trip did include a meeting with Israeli Druze. I remember thinking at the time that the Druze were an incredibly interesting people, unlike any other I had met in the Middle East. Despite being an offshoot of Islam, they did not seem to harbor any resentment towards the Jews, and were quite hospitable to us when we visited. If my memory serves me well, they told me that they believe there will be a fixed number of generations of Druze, and I remember wondering what would happen after they pass that generation and the world still exists.
Great news: New Hezbollah Theme Park opens in Lebanon to rave reviews!
Could you imagine the Jews opening a theme park celebrating their military triumphs over Muslims? Of course you can't. There's a sick culture of death in parts of the Middle East (hint: not the Jewish parts), eerily represented by a toddler smiling as he plays with a mounted turret.
