Yesterday MEMRI TV posted a clip of Egyptian Muslim Preacher 'Amr Khaled from May 10, discussing the impending European Islamic majority. As has become sadly typical of this kind of Islamic thought, 'Amr Khaled first claims that Europeans are ignorant of the Prophet and then exhibits the usual denial and projection we have come to associate with Islamist thinking:
Khaled: The Muslims keep having children, while the Europeans don't. This means that within 20 years, the Muslims will be a majority, which may have an exceptional influence on the decision-making. This makes other groups very angry, and they consider this to be very dangerous. These are the enemies of Islam, as we know full well. But the peoples of the West know nothing about the Muslims. Statistics show that 70% do not know who the Prophet of the Muslims is. The fact that Muhammad is the Prophet of the Muslims is not known to many people in the West. That's just one example.
I suspect most Europeans know quite well who the Prophet of the Muslims is, but may take issue with Khaled's conclusion that the growing European enmity to Islam arises merely from the fact of Islam's procreative vigor rather than Islam's specific characteristics that are antithetical to European concepts of freedom. Khaled alludes to this in the next section of the interview:
Interviewer: So you are making a very important claim – that there are intentional and premeditated provocations in order to drive the Muslims out of their current home – Europe.
Khaled: Yes. When the offensive cartoons first appeared, it was strange to see that the button they press [to provoke] the Muslims – the Koran and the Prophet Muhammad, which are sacred to them – is the same button that is sacred to the West – freedom of speech. What is sacred in the West – freedom of speech – is their equivalent of the Koran... That is what they hold sacred. The West is attacking what the Muslims hold sacred by means of what the West itself holds sacred.
Note that Khaled implies the incompatibility of Islam and the West in this statement. At the same time those Muslims who commit atrocities are merely making mistakes, mistakes which the Europeans seize upon as pretexts for their campaign against Islam:
Khaled: In order to drive the Muslims out of Europe, the European peoples must have a pretext giving them legitimacy to do so, like they had in Bosnia. After all, Bosnia is in Europe, so nobody can claim this is far-fetched. Bosnia is not far away. Therefore, their solution is to continue the provocation [against the Muslims], and to continue to do things that would provoke the Muslims, who would make mistakes, such as bombings and other unusual responses. Then the European peoples would say: "What's this? What are they doing?" Then they would have a pretext for what would follow
Interviewer: So this is mental preparation for the Europeans to drive out the Muslims. These are very serious claims.
Khaled: This is my interpretation of things. Otherwise, what do they gain by offending [the Muslims] in different ways all the time, when the outcome is known in advance?
Finally Khaled suggest that Muslims resolve this danger by becoming "walking propaganda machines"; only by hiding their true nature can Islam remain in Europe long enough to become th majority:
Khaled: People will tell you that Denmark suffered economic losses, and this is true. So why does it continue? Because some believe that it is more beneficial to [drive out] the 30 million, and that it outweighs the boycott. So they are pushing in that direction. What is the solution? We must be very realistic and positive. What needs to be done? What we need is for the 30 million Muslims in Europe to infiltrate [society], and to show European and Western society how respectable and successful they are. Those are the key words: "I am respectable and successful." If the 30 million Muslims manage to ignore these provocations, and to channel their anger in support of the Prophet Muhammad and of Islam into becoming walking propaganda machines... Each person should say: "I am an ambassador for Islam," and they should all take action throughout Europe – in the companies where they work, in sports clubs, and in any place where they can mingle and fit in with the Europeans, and where they can show them their moral values and success. That will abolish the plan, and the Muslims will remain in Europe. We really need ten years for the Muslims in Europe to become firmly established and very successful
Consider this in light of LGF's report from Saturday:
One Third of UK Muslim Students OK with Killing for Islam
This Religion of Peace Moment is brought to you by Muslims attending British universities: Third of Muslim students back killings.
ALMOST a third of British Muslim students believe killing in the name of Islam can be justified, according to a poll. The study also found that two in five Muslims at university support the incorporation of Islamic sharia codes into British law
The YouGov poll for the Centre for Social Cohesion (CSC) will raise concerns about the extent of campus radicalism. “Significant numbers appear to hold beliefs which contravene democratic values,” said Han-nah Stuart, one of the report’s authors. “These results are deeply embarrassing for those who have said there is no extremism in British universities.”
...
In addition to its poll of 1,400 Muslim and nonMuslim students, the centre visited more than 20 universities to interview students and listen to guest speakers. It found that extremist preachers regularly gave speeches that were inflammatory, homophobic or bordering on antisemitic.
The next several years will determine how well Democratic societies can defend themselves from the growth and development of a large population of poorly assimilated people who do not identify with the larger culture and hold attitudes directly at odds with the prevailing ethic of the society. Furthermore, Muslims throughout the world have a tremendous capacity for denial of their own responsibility for problems and its attendant externalization and projection. It is sadly all to common to hear Muslims complain that the deck is stacked against them (externalization) and then follow up with the complaint that others want to harm them (projection), when the predominance of evidence suggests that in almost every case of ethnic and religious violence, Islam is the primary instigator.
When Islam feels attacked by a cartoon and the insult of a cartoon is considered more egregious than a suicide bombing on a commuter train, the sense of grievance can only grow as Democratic societies attempt to assert even minimal standards of free thought and speech.
