A number of people have contacted me by e-mail and wondered, along with Sarah in the comments, "What happened to Mark?" I worked with Mark for a little more than a year. In that time his mood improved significantly and his functioning improved as well. As was surmised, it was not easy for Mark to "open up", in part because he was so afraid he was "crazy", but at the same time he also had a tremendous need for someone to help him understand what he was experiencing. When he realized, through my involvement with him, that my job was to help him understand himself and not label or condemn him (he did enough of that for both of us) he was able to engage in valuable therapeutic work. Unfortunately, before we could make much headway in dealing with his underlying rage and his fear of his rage, his father took a new job and the family relocated out of the area. He expressed interest in starting with a new therapist but I do not know if he followed up.
