The winning Council Post this week was BLEEDING IRAQ, by Rick Moran at Right Wing Nut House; he offers an interesting perspective on the current sectarian violence in Iraq and includes some useful historical referents. In second place was a long post by Callimachus at Done With Mirrors, whose Rant Control is a history lesson disguised as a thorough and deserved fisking.
Among non-Council Posts, a guardedly optimistic post, Singing out of the flock, by Omar at Iraq the Model suggests that freedom allows for the evolution of consciousness:
Perhaps our problem is that we in Iraq are evolving politically faster than we are doing when it comes to economy, security, etc. that we are even ahead of countries like Egypt or Kuwait in holding real elections and having a permanent constitution and fair representation of all the segments of the people.
Of course this lag between political and material progress will bring on difficulties and challenges but at the same time what cannot be denied is the impressive evolution in awareness considering the short time elapsed since we got our freedom back.
In second place was Spengler's take on the current downward spiral in the Middle East, Cry Havoc, and let slip the puppies of war.
As always, all the nominated posts can be found at the Watcher of Weasels and all will reward your time and effort.
