The Islamic rage over the Danish newspaper's publishing of 12 cartoons of Muhammad deemed offensive to Islam has been nurtured and fanned into flames by the clever exploitation of state run media in a number of Arab countries. Michelle Malkin has a round-up and images of the cartoons. The BBC reports that Danes face growing Muslim storm:
Denmark has advised citizens against travel to Saudi Arabia, amid growing anger across the Muslim world at Danish depictions of the Prophet Muhammad.
A newspaper that published cartoons of the Prophet, one of which pictured a bomb hidden in his turban, apologised on Monday for offending Muslims.
Islam bans any depiction of the Prophet Muhammad or Allah.
The backlash has included a boycott of Danish goods, diplomatic sanctions, and Islamic militant threats.
Zombietime helpfully points out that this well traveled meme, that "Islam bans any depiction of the Prophet Muhammed", is disinformation.
The rage of Islam is intimately connected to the psychology of the Islamic world. Dr. Sanity some months ago wrote about SHAME, THE ARAB PSYCHE, AND ISLAM. Her post is invaluable reading for understanding the world of the Islamists:
As stated earlier in this essay, one of the ways that those who fear shame protect their fragile self is to subjugate those who he perceives as weaker. By doing so, he can rationalize that he is superior to the subjugated individual. In fact, this is the only way he can maximize his honor. In Arab/Islamic culture, women are one of the primary instruments of achieving honor. Hence the bizarre and distorted attitude that the culture has toward women and the exaggerated means by which "honor" must be maintained. So strong is the cultural pressure, even women buy into the delusion (as eloquently demonstrated by Dymphna in this post)
Honor killings of women are all too common in Arab culture, and importantly are not dissuaded by the tenets of Islam.
Other expressions of the shame culture that are obvious is the rampant psychological projection and refusal to accept responsibility for the atrocities committed in the name of Islam. Not only are we regularly subjected to imams, religious leaders, and leaders of Muslim states stating even now that 9/11 or the London bombings were not committed by Muslims; they also regularly blame the Jews for such acts. In this way they can avoid the shame that taking responsibility for evil.
Additionally, the emphasis by CAIR and other Muslim organizations in demanding that any statement that criticizes or even suggests blame or responsibility by Islam for terror, be retracted or apologized for, is also just a part of the shame-avoidant dance that leads the culture into the blurry realms of delusion.
Finally, it is not surprising that the most murderous thugs espousing religious ideals as they brutally cut off the heads of infidels are hidden behind masks and dare not reveal themselves to the world. I suspect that on some deep level they know that their "pride" in their sick behavior would be more difficult to boast about if they were not anonymous. "If no one knows it is me committing these acts, then I am not shamed," after all.
The Shame culture of Islam is compounded by their intensely dysfunctional narcissistic vulnerability. The Narcissist is characterized by an acute hyper-sensitivity to criticism (which is why there is so little humor in the Muslim world; humor always involves some disguised aggression and such expressions are intolerable to the Narcissist) and an extraordinary insensitivity to the feelings of others. Marathon Pundit points out something that is rarely discussed in the West:
Saudi Arabia pushes boycott of Denmark over Muhammad cartoons, while Saudis shred Bibles
The epicenter of the anti-Danish sentiment seems to be Saudi Arabia. Last week, the Kingdom recalled its ambassador to Denmark.
Friday services at Saudi mosques were dominated by denunciations of Denmark, as well as a call for a boycott of Danish products.
The Saudi government, on the other hand, is silent on the issue of Bible shredding. Wahhabi Islam is the state religion of Saudi Arabia. And the Saudis don't allow the Holy Book of Christianity into their nation.
What happens if someone is caught with a Bible by a Saudi customs agent? Often, the Bible is shredded.
One question worth raising is, why now? Why has radical, expansionist, oppressive Islam (which does not mean that every Muslim is filled with hate) been emboldened to be so confrontational. Bullies only take such liberties when their victims are weak and cowed. When you stand up to a bully their facade often crumbles (sometimes at the price of a bloody lip) and they forever after leave you alone. We were terribly bloodied on 9/11 and we stood up and struck back. Now, however, the Saudi haters, the Iranian haters, the Palestinian haters are on the attack. I believe the answer has to do with the time constraints that are facing both Islam and the West.
At the moment, Saudi Wahhabi Islam (Sunni) is allied with their deadly rivals in the Shia Islam of Iran. They are allies of convenience who will turn on each other in an instant as soon as they have subjugated the rest of the world to their vision of Islam. Their Islam is an intolerant hate filled religion that will not stop trying to destroy the West until they themselves are destroyed or reformed. The slim hope that Islam can reform itself is slim primarily because a religious reformation takes time. And time is the one thing we have very little of. Iran is closing in on a bomb, Hamas, the Palestinian Nazi Party (PNP) is on the ascendancy and has declared their intention to introduce Sharia law, the Eurabians seem unaware of their own complicity in slipping the noose around their own throats, and the Saudis continue funding murderers and hate mongers under the guise of Islam. Time is short for their version of Islam as well. Their parasitic Islam requires constant infusions of easy money and the easily extractable oil under the sands of Saudi Arabia and Iran may be running out in as little as 20 years while their demographic bomb is busy exploding; meanwhile, in the wonderful construction of Yehudit at Winds of Change, Islam encounters the information society, modernity is arriving in the Muslim world via technology that they can learn to use but never could produce. They realize they have little time to establish their heaven on earth caliphate (or worse, the Iranian Apocalypse which will usher in the return of the 12th Imam) before the crunch hits their societies. I agree with the Big Pharaoh that all religions should be treated with respect; like me, he wonders:
I can't end the post without saying: when will we grow up?? The Da Vinci Code did not harm Christianity, 12 cartoons won't harm Islam either!!
I do not know if Islam can have a reformation, that is grow up, in the short time before the crunch; if it doesn't, the Clash of Civilizations some seem to wish for will be inevitable and unimaginably destructive.
The clock is ticking...
