Light blogging again, but a few points to think about:
This is not really news but it is disquieting, Eyeing Potential Terror Threats, FDNY Prepares For The Worst:
It's no secret the city's Police and Fire Departments are preparing for possible terrorist attacks, but now there's word that one of the main threats the FDNY is planning for is a nuclear attack.
The FDNY says it's been training to combat threats like dirty bomb attacks or the detonation of a crude nuclear device.
You might wonder what kind of ideology is required to make the unthinkable thinkable. Chris Short, at The Jawa Report links to this article, Messianic madness of nuclear Osama, which points to how many Muslims are viewing all sorts of natural phenomena as evidence of Allah's desire to destroy America (there is no explanation of why the Tsunami and the Kashmir earthquake are not seen as evidence that Allah wants to destroy Islamic separatist movements, but alas, signs and portents are difficult to read in the best of times.)
Signs in the heavens and a popular notion in the Islamic world that Osama bin Laden is the "Mahdi," a long-awaited messianic deliverer, increase this month's risk of mega-terror attacks on the U.S. – including raising the threat of al-Qaida's nuclear "American Hiroshima" plan, says an author and expert in a report released today to WND.
....
In the fatwa, titled "A Treatise on the Legal Status of Using Weapons of Mass Destruction against Infidels," al Fahd ruled that international law should not be taken into consideration while determining if America should be nuked. Islamic law, he says, overrides all man-made laws.
"Al Fahd justifies the mass casualties and destruction that would be caused by the 'American Hiroshima' -- the al Qaida plan to detonate seven tactical nuclear weapons in seven major U.S. cities -- by arguing that an estimate of the number of Muslims killed by Americans would total almost 10 million," writes Williams.
In addition to the Double Occultation of the sun and the moon, many Muslims see other signs that Allah seeks the destruction of the United States, including the devastation wrought by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Chris has something to say about this and is only being hyperbolic of you don't listen to what our enemies are actually saying:
This is some scary kind of thinking folks! While America folds to the politically correct, and continually weaken our spiritual edge in this battle to secularization, a huge faction of the enemy view this as the freakin Apocolypse! Why isn't anything being done to our borders? Regardless of your opinion on whether the end is near, or religion in general...this is some scary kind of thinking on the enemy's side. The kind of thinking that could lead to all kinds of crazy stuff. I don't know if its the end of the world or not, but I know one thing...if America doesn't wake up, and wake up fast, it will be the end of the world as we know it! The political correctness crap has got to stop folks!
And if you think the problem is only overseas, you haven't been paying attention. Baron Bodissey has been keeping the story of Jamaat-ul Fuqra on the front burner; these charming folks, who almost certainly counted John Allen Muhammad (remember him, the beltway sniper?) as one of their members, split off from the Nation of Islam because they weren't violent enough, and are active in lots of surprising places in America.
And then let us not forget the ever popular sport of anti-Semitism, as practiced at some of our finest institutions of higher learning, where theo have managed to meld political correctness with hate speech. Who would ever have thought the American left could be so inventive? Dr. Kamau Kambon And The Protocols Of The Elders of Zion Vs Thomas Klocek introduces us to a "Professor" with a "doctorate" who apparently believes the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a true story. Someone please explain to me how Jews can run the world and yet have everyone trying to kill them all the time? If Jews are such G-d like people, with super powers and all, aren't they supposed to smite their enemies instead of trying to build a fence so they can be left alone? And speaking of suicide bombers, take a look at Dinocrat's post, Some people like feeling oppressed, where she points out:
As sad and perverse as it is to say, some people like feeling oppressed. It gives their lives meaning. It lets them feel morally superior to those they see as their oppressors, and absolves them of responsibility for any vile act they undertake, which would be by their definition and moral calculus “retribution.”
Once you have incorporated "victimhood" into your self-concept, you have trapped yourself in a dead end. Nothing you can do can change your circumstances. You either have to subsist on the largess of the powerful who deign to offer you crumbs or you must plot to kill the oppressors and seize what you imagine they have stolen from you. Either way you lose. As I pointed out in Race and the Unconscious (which incorporates some of the newer neurobiology I described in Science Friday: Differentiating the Self in explaining how unconscious, devalued identifications help undermine one's sense of self), once you put your energies into fighting for affirmative action (and its more ludicrous extension of reparations) rather than working to better your own abilities and talents, you have already tacitly (unconsciously) bought into the idea that you are inferior and cannot compete on a level playing field; sorry, but that is a non-starter if you are ever to achieve anything meaningful. And if you believe your job is to destroy yourself to overthrow the oppressors and yet, their society increases its technological, economic, educational, and social advantages over your failing culture by the day, you are consigning yourself to permanent destitution.
